What is NDA?
NDA stands for National Defence Academy. Here, candidates who get selected for the three armed forces – Army, Navy, and Air Force – are trained for their respective departments.
Costs in NDA
There is no monthly fee that has to be paid by the candidates who get selected for the NDA. Every cost, starting from food and accommodation, is incurred by the Government. A student might need some extra amount of money for personal expenses, which can vary from person to person.

Career in NDA
Getting selected in the NDA means the candidate qualifies for all three armed forces. Four years of training is conducted after selection, during which candidates are awarded a graduation degree. At the end of their training, candidates are selected as:
- Lieutenant in the Army
- Sub-Lieutenant in the Navy
- Flying Officer in the Air Force
Degree Awarded
On completing the four-year training after qualifying the examinations, candidates are awarded a BA or B.Sc. degree after three years.
Field Duty
Cadets are never sent to the battlefield. In case of any national emergency, the senior-most batch who are under IMA (Indian Military Academy) or OTA (Officers Training Academy) can be sent to the operational units as per the Government’s instructions.

Eligibility for NDA
As per the notification, only unmarried male candidates can sit for the NDA examination. The candidates should have cleared their class 12th examination.
Age Limit
- NDA I 2021 – Candidates who are unmarried and not born earlier than 2nd July 2002 (approx. 18.5 years) and not later than 1st July 2005 (approx. 15.5 years).
- NDA II 2021 – Candidates who are unmarried and not born earlier than 2nd January 2003 (approx. 18.5 years) and not later than 1st January 2006 (approx. 15.5 years).
