What is NDA?
The National Defense Academy (NDA) is the esteemed part of the Indian Armed Forces that includes three branches: the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. NDA is designed to bring together candidates from all three services and provide comprehensive pre-commissioned training before they are separated for specialized academies. To enter NDA, candidates must first clear an entrance exam conducted by UPSC, after which they undergo further training in their respective academies.

NDA Examination
The National Defense Academy (NDA) examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year (NDA I & NDA II) to recruit eligible candidates into the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. It is the world’s first tri-service academy where candidates from all three forces are trained together. The NDA Exam is conducted for recruiting candidates into the Army, Navy, and Air Force at the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy.
Selection Process
The selection process for NDA (National Defence Academy) is divided into three stages:
- Written Examination (900 Marks)
- Personal Interview – SSB (900 Marks)
- Medical Review by Command Hospital
Candidates who qualify the written examination will be called for a personal interview at SSB centers. Successful candidates will then undergo a medical review. The personal interview spans over 5 days, during which candidates will be evaluated through various tasks.
