The National Defence Academy (NDA), established at Khadakwasla, Pune, in 1954, became a beacon of pride and opportunity for aspiring defense personnel across India. This gap led the Government of Maharashtra to take proactive steps by forming a committee to address the issue.
On the committee’s recommendation, the Services Preparatory Institute (SPI) was established in Aurangabad in 1977 to prepare young boys academically, mentally, and physically for entry into the NDA and other prestigious defense academies.
